THE SUCCESS OF FORMER INMATES IS A SUCCESS FOR US ALL
The California Prison Industry Authority (CALPIA) is dedicated to teaching inmates the real world job skills they need when they return to the community. Former offenders take pride in being able to work. That reduces the incentive for repeat crime. In turn, that makes former offenders contributing members of a community that is safer for us all.
The Los Angeles Employer Forum 2008, co-sponsored by the California Prison Industry Authority and the Office of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, provides an introduction to a highly qualified, motivated, but often overlooked, pool of prospective employees that can benefit your business with industry-accredited job skills.
You will meet:
- Business owners and other employers who have benefited from hiring of ex-offenders;
- Former offenders who have turned their lives around and contributed to the success of businesses with their job skills, work ethic and motivated attitude;
- Representatives from the Office of Mayor Villaraigosa and the California Prison Industry Authority who can explain how to tap into this valuable pool of potential employees and answer any question you have.
You will learn:
- The tax benefits available for hiring former offenders;
- Bonding options that protect your business and limit liability;
- The process for documenting the work history and training of former offenders;
- How the local community profits by creating neighborhoods with more employment and fewer parolees without jobs;
- The process for hiring former offenders and who is available to help you.
